Japan Export Process Explained — From Auction to Your Port

April 5, 2026 6 min read

Behind the scenes: how a vehicle moves from a Japanese auction yard to a vessel bound for your country.

Step 1 — Bidding Exporters bid on your behalf at USS, TAA, JU, HAA and other auction houses. Successful bids are paid same-day in JPY.

Step 2 — Transport to yard The vehicle is trucked from the auction yard to our Nagoya storage yard for cleaning, photography, and verification.

Step 3 — Deregistration We deregister the vehicle from Japan's Land Transport Bureau and obtain the Export Certificate (Mar-shou-shou).

Step 4 — Pre-shipment inspection JEVIC, QISJ or equivalent inspection takes place at the yard or port.

Step 5 — Booking the vessel We book on the next available RoRo vessel from Yokohama, Nagoya, Kobe, or Hakata. Sailing schedules are weekly to most destinations.

Step 6 — Loading & Bill of Lading The vehicle is delivered to the port. After loading, the shipping line issues the Bill of Lading (B/L) — your proof of ownership in transit.

Step 7 — Document courier Original documents are couriered to you (or your clearing agent) within 48 hours of vessel departure.
